Before skiing: getting ready to hit the slopes

  • Insurance

Are you insured? Downhill ski insurance guarantees that you can ski with peace of mind, without the risk of having to pay out of pocket for any rescue costs, which can be very substantial.

  • EQUIPMENT

Don't neglect your equipment! Skis, snowboards, snowshoes, poles, helmets... They all have to fit, be properly adjusted and be in good condition. If in doubt, ask a ski rental company. Adjustment tools are available on site.

  • Warming up

This year, was it more gym or couch?

Skiing is a sport in its own right, and requires good physical condition! So don't neglect your pre-trip physical preparation, and don't forget to warm up at the start of the day. The bumps on the black runs can wait!

  • LEARN

Does all this make you dizzy? Why not take a lesson? Yes, you can learn to glide. And there's no age limit to learning!

Don't go out on your own if you don't know how to control your speed and trajectory: you could be risking your own safety and that of others.

The resort's professionals will teach you how to get the most out of your skiing, whatever you choose to do.

The 3 golden rules :

  • CONTROL your speed and trajectory
  • GIVEPRIORITY to skiers below you
  • When STOPPING, always position yourself to the side, within sight of those above you

In the event of an accident

  1. Secure the area! To avoid colliding with another skier. If the victim can move on his own, move to the edge of the piste. If not, move upstream or, better still, use your skis and report the accident.
  2. Call the piste service. The number is on your ski pass
  3. Locate yourself using the beacons on the slopes, identify yourself and give a cell phone number.

Above all, do not :

  • Move the victim if he/she cannot move on his/her own: NO!
  • Leave the victim alone to fetch help (on the slopes): NO!
  • Take a chairlift downhill with an accident victim: NO!

Now you're ready to hit the slopes!
