The 3rd edition of the Les Orres resort's litter-picking morning took place on Thursday June 27. The event was organized in collaboration with the Mountain Riders association, which promotes sustainable development in the mountains. Over 40 people took part in the event, which resulted in the collection of around 120kg of all kinds of garbage. A significant improvement on the 2023 event, which collected 400kg of garbage.
The operation stretched from the top of the Prelongis chairlift to the start of the Champ Lacas chairlift in Les Orres 1550, passing through the ski slopes and the 1650 and 1800 snow fronts.
On this part of the ski area, winter's white coat has given way to a green landscape dotted with flowers of all colors, but not only... More than 40 volunteers, including residents, holidaymakers, socio-professionals and resort staff, gathered at 8:30 a.m. to contribute to this ecological initiative. Equipped with gloves and bags, participants scoured the resort's paths, trails and public areas to collect waste.
At the end of the operation, almost 120kg of waste was collected, sorted and disposed of correctly. The following items were collected :
Thanks to our collective commitment, this action not only enabled us to clean up our natural surroundings, but also to raise public awareness of the importance of waste reduction and recycling.
The resort would like to remind the public of the importance of :
1) Avoid taking items out of your pockets and bags when you're on a chairlift (a lot of waste comes from these objects falling onto the slopes and forests below)
2) Remember to close all zippers 113 packets of tissues, 18 lip sticks and 29 hair elastics were found on the mountain.
And the prize for most unusual waste goes to...
Last year it was a frying pan, an egg cup and a mop. This year, the waste we really didn't expect to find on the ski area has, surprisingly, a seaside vacation feel: a "homemade" jar of macerated olives, a bottle of Tahitian monoi and a cocktail parasol.
By organizing this annual litter-picking morning, the Les Orres resort aims to make environmental protection a priority shared by all, to guarantee a healthy and preserved living environment for future generations.
With the help of the Mountain Rider Association and its "Mountain 0 waste" program, which aims to eradicate litter at altitude, Les Orres has long been committed to protecting the environment, promoting sustainable tourism and raising awareness among its stakeholders and visitors of the need to protect the mountains and reduce waste.
See you next year for a new edition, with the ambition of meeting in ever greater numbers to preserve our mountains!
