The must-do hike in Les Orres! Lake Sainte Marguerite is an ideal spot for a cool picnic. In the heart of beautiful alpine pastures still grazed by cows, you can hear and see numerous marmots.
➡️ THE DEPARTURE:
Les Orres 1650
➡️ THE ROUTE:
From Les Orres 1650, take the Allée des Mélèzes and follow the Elie Meyssirel pedestrian path. Follow the lake signs to the Les Orres 1800 snow front.
Once at the 1800 snow front, go up: the trail is at the edge of the forest on the right.
Follow this trail for about 2 km until you exit the forest. The trail crosses a ski slope (Grand Cabane), passes in front of the ruins of a cabin, and crosses a stream (wooden bridge). The climb becomes steeper to reach the lake, located on a plateau.
For the return, you have 2 options:
Return via the same route
Via the shepherd's cabin and then on the track that joins the Pra Paisset parking lot. At the Bergerie Gautier, a path on the right allows you to reach Les Orres 1800.
This route can be done in both directions.
This hike can also start:
From the Pra Paisset parking lot (on the road to the 1800 station. A large sign indicates the start of the hike).
From the center of the 1800 station.
REGULATIONS REGARDING BIVOUACKING, CAMPING, AND FIRES:
Because the mountain is a fragile environment and to keep it preserved and enjoyable for all of us, here are the rules regarding camping, bivouacking, and campfires at the lake:
Camping and bivouacking are prohibited at Lake Sainte Marguerite (private land).
Any fire outside the designated fire pits is prohibited.
