On Tuesday June 21, over 50 participants gathered at 8:30 am on the Les Orres snow front to take part in a morning of litter-picking. This is an annual event for the resort, which this year organized it in conjunction with the Mountain Riders association. A great operation to preserve the mountain and raise public awareness, which resulted in the collection of over 150kg of all kinds of garbage.
More than 50 volunteers, including SCOCE, SEMLORE staff, Orrians and valley residents, got together on Tuesday morning to take part in this morning's collection. After the fragile areas had been identified in advance by resort teams, several groups spread out along the slopes, chairlifts and snow fronts of Les Orres 1650 and 1800. The aim was twofold: firstly, to collect as much garbage as possible and, secondly, to be able to sort it by type (cigarette butts, masks, etc.), which will enable the resort to adapt its awareness-raising and prevention actions later on.
In all, over 150 kilograms of garbage were collected, including :
The morning concluded with a convivial "zero waste" barbecue for all participants.
This action is part of the environmental policy of the Les Orres resort, which has been implementing a number of eco-responsible actions for several years, whether in terms of waste management, mobility, preservation of the environment, etc. The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region is also committed to the "Mediterranean Zero Waste" project, of which Les Orres town council and SEMLORE are signatories. This scheme promotes this type of event, since plastic waste in a mountain stream can end up in the sea. The Les Orres ski resort is committed to raising awareness among its stakeholders and visitors of the need to protect the mountains and reduce waste, because let's not forget: the best waste is the waste we don't produce.
Based in Chambéry, this association aims to preserve fragile mountain environments by informing, raising awareness and promoting prevention through actions aimed at children and adults. The association has launched a program entitled "Montagne 0 déchets" (Mountain 0 waste), with the clear aim of eradicating litter in the mountains. To achieve this, it supports the organizers of waste collection days by providing educational material, in particular for a characterization phase: this involves sorting waste by type (masks, cigarette butts, textiles, etc.). This approach is part of a national initiative: the aim is to collect data on a national scale, so as to be able to draw conclusions on the actions to be taken as a matter of priority.
From August 1 to 5, the resort is hosting the Game of Trees Festival, which combines environmental conservation, culture, art and sport. The festival is organized jointly by Les Orres, the A 2 Pas de la Scène agency and Place to B, an environmental NGO proposing solutions for tomorrow's climate change and transition. Local players who are committed on a daily basis to discovering, innovating and preserving our heritage will be present throughout the event. At the heart of our concerns: to design an eco-responsible festival that transmits emotions, solutions and facilitates changes in behavior.
