Since January 1, 2024, the AGEC law has obliged local authorities in charge of waste management to offer residents a solution for sorting and recycling biowaste. According to the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME), biowaste accounts for around a third of our household waste, or 83kg/year/person. Biowaste refers to food waste: meal leftovers (raw or cooked), peelings, etc

To help you in this process, the Serre-Ponçon community of communes, through its SMICTOM Serre-Ponçon company, offers 3 solutions:

  • Individual composters
  • Shared composting sites
  • Portable composters

The SMICTOM Serre-Ponçon company coordinates the installation of biowaste collection points (using mobile composters) and shared composting sites at strategic locations in the commune, alongside voluntary collection points.

The biowaste collection points are made up of 2 bins:

  • 1 for input
  • 1 for structuring (shredded green waste)

The drop-off bin will be collected by SMICTOM Serre-Ponçon. The bio-waste thus collected will be taken to the composting platform at Pralong to complete its decomposition and become compost.

The shared composting sites consist of 3 bins:

  • 1 for input
  • 1 for structuring (shredded green waste)
  • 1 for maturation

Once the input bin is full, SMICTOM Serre-Ponçon will put this bin into maturation and open the other bin so that it becomes the input bin. Maturation of bio-waste will produce compost, which will ultimately be made available to the public free of charge.

Once the biowaste has been deposited in the recycling bin, cover it with a little structuring agent located in the structuring agent bin (next to the recycling bins).

Be careful with all your green waste: grass clippings, branches, etc. These should be reused at home (mulching, shredding, etc.) or taken to a waste collection center, but never put them with bio-waste.

Installation schedule

In July, installation of shared composting sites:

  • Chef Lieu: on the resort side of the village,
  • Chef Lieu: behind the church,
  • Mélezet: at the fire station,
  • Les Ribes,
  • Pralallègre

In autumn, installation of mobile composting sites:

  • Parking de Pramouton,
  • Parking de l'Estomac,
  • Center Station 1650,
  • Bois Méan: at the flags, upstream and downstream of the bins.

10-litre bioseaux ( one per household) are available free of charge from the town hall, enabling you to transport your biowaste from your home to the shared or mobile composting site . Kraft bags are also available.

For those wishing to compost at home, individual 300 L wooden composters are still available from the SMICTOM Serre-Ponçon office, simply by registering at: compostage@ccserreponcon.com (for a fee of €15 = 1 composter + 1 bioseau + 1 training course).
