After Les Arcs and Les Ménuires, the French Downhill Mountain Bike Cup moved to Les Orres on September 11 and 12 to determine the winners of the 2021 event.
235 participants gathered in Les Orres to race down the French Cup track specially laid out for the occasion. With forest sections, several jumps (including 2 raod gaps ) and a rock garden, the course is as varied as a World Cup race can be. Top riders will need between 3 and 4 minutes to complete it.
Number 1 Dylan Levesque, freshly selected for the French team at the World Championships in Val Di Sole, Italy, in August, will be the last rider to start the placement round on Sunday, September 12. After his 21st place on the international circuit, he will be keen to confirm his performance in the Coupe de France. But our eyes will be particularly on Ian Guionnet, Bike Park des Orres ambassador since last year.
With his number 5 bib, he'll also be one of the drivers aiming for a podium finish. He too has recently had a taste of the international circuit, having been selected for the World Cup in Maribor, Slovenia. He narrowly missed out on qualification for last week's final in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. But despite the disappointment of coming so close, the Haut-Alpin is happy to be back at his best at the end of the season. In the women's category, Mathilde Bernard, more accustomed to international competition, recently distinguished herself with a 14th-place finish at the World Championships in Val Di Sole and a 12th-place finish at the World Cup in Lenzerheide. Already a silver medallist in the four-cross event in Italy, the Vauclusienne will be a tough opponent. But our hearts will go out to Laura Peythieu, bib no. 206, a local of the event and also the new ambassador for Les Orres Bike Park.
But the French Cup final means the overall title. And in this game, the leaders of the rankings will also be to watch:
Ranking leaders not mentioned above will not be present in Les Orres.
