On Saturday, July 6, the Grand Vallon festival will take place, an annual event celebrating pastoral and alpine traditions. The day is a must for locals and visitors alike, offering a unique blend of culture, nature and conviviality.
The festivities begin at 11 a.m. near the Saint Pierre chapel in Grand Vallon.
Afterwards, a convivial picnic will be held near the Rama hut. Everyone is invited to bring their own lunch and enjoy a moment of relaxation in the heart of nature. The Comité des fêtes will provide a complimentary sangria and grilled meats.
The afternoon will be punctuated by a variety of activities, including open-air games, the traditional game of pétanque, musical entertainment and tales and legends from the Alps. There's something for everyone, children and adults alike.
L'Amontagnage is one of the three historic festivities that continue to this day in Les Orres, alongside La Ficelière and Sainte Marie Madeleine.
This tradition marks a crucial time of year when farmers lead their herds of cows, goats and sheep to the Orres mountains. Accompanied by their sheepdogs and guard dogs, they leave the Orléans hamlets on foot at the end of June to reach the mountain pastures. Here, the animals find fat, tasty grass and cool temperatures.
These transhumances are truly festive events, with villages celebrating the passage of the herds. In Les Orres, the Amontagnage festival has been held for centuries at the Grand Vallon, bringing together farmers, shepherds and villagers to share a traditional snack.
