On Thursday June 8, a litter-picking morning was organized in the Les Orres resort. Around forty people took part in the event, spreading out over various routes identified in advance. Organized in collaboration with the Mountain Riders Association, this event is an annual event for the resort, on the eve of its first opening weekend. The initiative, which is in line with the resort's policy of preserving the mountain and raising public awareness, resulted in the collection of over 400 kg of garbage of all kinds.
In all, over 400kg of waste was collected at the station, including around :
Incredible but true, they included a frying pan, a floorcloth, an egg cup, a gas cartridge and a toothbrush... How did this unexpected waste end up in the ski area? It remains a mystery, but one thing's for sure: without the volunteers, they'd still be there.
The waste collection ended with a convivial barbecue for all participants on the resort's snow front. An opportunity to share a good time together and take stock of the morning's work.
This initiative is part of the ecological vision adopted by the Les Orres resort, which has been implementing numerous sustainable actions for several years. These include waste management, the promotion of eco-mobility, environmental preservation, the sound management of natural resources and many other areas. The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region is also committed to the "Mediterranean Zero Waste" project, to which Les Orres town council and SEMLORE have signed up. This project encourages this type of event, as plastic waste in a mountain stream can end up in the sea. In this way, Les Orres makes it a point of honor to raise awareness among its stakeholders and visitors of the need to protect the mountains and reduce waste, because it is essential to remember that the best waste is that which is not produced.
Based in Chambéry, France, this association's mission is to protect fragile mountain ecosystems by informing, educating and warning, through various actions aimed at children and adults. The association has launched an ambitious program called"Montagne 0 déchets", which aims to eradicate litter at altitude. To this end, it supports the organizers of waste collection days by providing them with educational material, in particular for a characterization phase. This stage involves sorting waste by category (such as masks, cigarette butts, textiles, etc.). This approach is part of a wider national initiative, the aim of which is to collect data across the country in order to identify priority actions to be taken.
From July 31 to August 4, the resort will host the 2nd edition of the Game of Trees Festival, an event that combines environmental preservation, culture, art and sport. Local players, who are committed on a daily basis to discovering, innovating and preserving our heritage, will be present throughout the event.
The Festival is the result of cooperation between Les Orres and the A 2 Pas de la Scène agency. The central objective is to design a festival that is as eco-responsible as possible, conveying emotions and solutions and encouraging changes in behavior.
