On February 6, 2024, either on-site at Les Orres or online via Zoom, the 20th edition of the OCOVA forum will explore 3 major themes in the ecological transition of resorts and valleys, with summaries, case studies and debates on solutions for optimizing the responsible management of mountain territories.

Mountains of tomorrow: energy sobriety and resource recovery

The first morning session will be devoted to approaches to renewable energy production in the mountains, its characteristics, performance and obstacles to deployment. This will be followed by presentations on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and managing mobility and accessibility in mountain resorts. Presentations will also focus on approaches to reducing energy consumption, particularly in buildings and facilities.

Drones and mountain applications

Drones are becoming an increasingly important tool for collecting data and intervening in the field, thanks to their flexibility, ease of deployment and the diversity of missions they can carry out. However, missions must be prepared and carried out by qualified, well-trained personnel, in compliance with regulations, safety and the needs of the various categories of mountain users. This is why we have set up a Centre d'Excellence Drone de Montagne (Mountain Drone Center of Excellence ), whose aim is to train remote pilots, and advise on the preparation and operational conduct of various types of mission, in the specific context of mountain territories. Created at the end of 2023 with the support of Les Orres, the CEDM has already carried out numerous training and consultancy initiatives for mountain resorts. The OCOVA 2024 forum will provide an opportunity to present these initiatives in various categories of operations carried out in complex environments, with the participation of resorts monitored by CEDM: Les Orres, Les Belleville, Serre Chevalier, Tignes, Courchevel.

Mountains of tomorrow: Territorial intelligence

Afternoon sessions will focus on data enhancement and exchange: approaches to the use of multi-source data (drone, satellite...) for applications based on geographic information systems (GIS) in Austria, a European project on data quality, enhancement and exploitation for territorial water management (SEDMARK), and water quality control (Scottish Water).

Presentations and debates will then focus on strategic visions for territorial development and data exchange at local, regional and inter-regional levels, with the participation of the SUD Region and the Lombardy Region. Forum 2024 will thus make a further contribution to the emergence of tomorrow's mountains.
