Mountain specialities

The Hautes-Alpes department is the only one in France to be classified entirely as a mountain area, and benefits from an unspoilt natural environment. It's hardly surprising, then, that its terroir is rich in specialities to delight your taste buds!

Tourtons, ravioles or " oreilles d'ânes" (donkey ears), cheeses, local pies, charcuterie and meats, génépi and orchard fruit juices... These products can be tasted at markets, producers, shops and restaurants.

In Les Orres, you'll find Châteauroux Les-Alpes trout, rosemary-flavored Orres lamb and mountain flowers ; short-distance products enhanced by traditional or gourmet recipes from restaurateurs. And let's not forget the must-try specialty of the Hautes-Alpes: the delicious blueberry tart. This sweet treat is made from perfectly golden shortbread dough , filled with jam and covered with pastry criss-crosses. A delicious dessert or snack, served warm or cold!

A native of the region, he cut his teeth in Michelin-starred restaurants on the coast. For the past 3 years, with his partner Estelle who manages the dining room, he has been concocting gourmet dishes at Le Lieu restaurant. An address that's become unmissable !

A cuisine with Mediterranean and Provençal tendencies, instilled by his grandmother. The blend of fresh, regional produce, spices and techniques acquired on his travels creates original and surprising combinations, but always delicious !

When the weather's fine (often in the southern Alps!), you can enjoy the terrace with its panoramic view of the Orres mountains.

A seasonal chef for 23 years in various establishments in Les Orres, Steeve Labreux is very attached to Les Orres. He has always loved the resort's family atmosphere and beautiful ski area. It was only natural that he should decide to buy his own restaurant, La Table de Steeve, 3 years ago. His address is a must in Les Orres 1650.

Steeve offers traditional, local cuisine , home-made with a love of taste. Among the Hautes-Alpes products you'll find on your plate: lamb from Benoît Glardon in Les Orres, trout from Châteauroux les Alpes, tomme from La Belette in Romette, blue cheese from Château Queyras, goat's cheese from Les Caprines de Cagnoles in Crevoux, spindle and rib steak from La Morlette in Embrun and coppa from Champsaur.

Of course, you can also try our mountain specialties, fondues and raclettes.

ISABELLE ET LAURENT DECORY, CRÊPERIE LE HORS-PISTE

📍Les Orres 1650

In 2022, Isabelle and Laurent acquired the former butcher's shop in Les Orres 1650 with one project in mind: to offer holidaymakers the chance to enjoy tasty crêpes in a warm and welcoming place. After extensive renovation work, the brand-new crêperie opened its doors in July 2023. Skiing being a real family passion (their son is an instructor and trainer at SCOCE), the restaurant was naturally oriented towards the world of winter sports.
At lunchtime, holidaymakers enjoy the galettes prepared by Laurent. In the afternoon, avid skiers, instructors and students gather around a crêpe flambéed with génépi, accompanied by a bowl of draught cider.

Our customers' favorite galette? The Hors-Piste, where Reblochon cream blends with smoked bacon. On the sweet side, youngsters love the nutella-banana!

Ludivine and Ashley, Chez Mariusrestaurant

📍Les Orres 1800

Ludivine discovered her passion for the restaurant business at the age of 15, and went on to multiply her experiences, from English palaces to seasons in the mountains , via the famous Negresco in Nice. In Les Orres, she met Ashley, her partner and future business partner.
The arrival of their son Marius prompted them to seek greater stability. After two years at Le Rooftop in Embrun, they were offered a great opportunity: to take over a restaurant in Les Orres.

" Chez Marius was born, a name that sounded like an obvious reference to our 6-year-old son, full of life and energy, who inspires us every day. We wanted to create a place in our image, warm and family-friendly, where sharing and conviviality are paramount.

Our philosophy is simple: respect for products and homemade cooking. We work with raw, fresh, local produce whenever possible, with simple yet generous, high-quality recipes. Our aim: to make everyone feel at home, in a setting where service is meticulous and good humor is omnipresent.

Chez Marius is above all a human and family adventure. A project from the heart, designed to bring people together, where each dish tells a story and where we hope that everyone will find their place, just like in a big family".
